Advancing Trade, Connectivity, and Investment: SCO Trade Council Dialogue Brings Together Global Stakeholders

The SCO Trade Council Dialogue brought together diplomats, policymakers, trade representatives, industry leaders, and business professionals to discuss opportunities for economic cooperation, trade expansion, investment, and regional connectivity across the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) region. Organized by the SCO Trade Council, the dialogue focused on the growing importance of the SCO as one of the world’s most influential regional groupings, comprising major economies including China, India, Russia, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and Belarus.

The event witnessed participation from representatives of Kyrgyzstan, Iraq, South Korea, and Finland, alongside delegates from the India Commonwealth Trade Council, India Africa Trade Council, India EU Trade Council, and the United Diplomatic Council, all of which function as strategic platforms under the broader ecosystem of the Indian Economic Trade Organization (IETO). Together, these councils reflect the growing interconnectedness of global markets and the increasing dependence of nations on international partnerships, diversified trade corridors, and cross-border collaboration. The dialogue highlighted how economic growth today is driven not by isolated markets but by strong regional and global networks that connect businesses, institutions, and governments across continents.

Addressing the gathering, Mr. Tribhuvan Darbari, Chairman, National Part of Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Business Council Secretariat India, highlighted the increasing relevance of the SCO in the global economic landscape.

“The SCO region represents one of the most significant economic corridors of the 21st century. As businesses increasingly look beyond traditional markets, the SCO offers unparalleled opportunities for trade, investment, innovation, and regional collaboration. Platforms such as this dialogue play an important role in fostering mutual understanding and economic engagement among member nations.”

The forum brought together stakeholders from sectors including infrastructure, manufacturing, logistics, agriculture, energy, technology, healthcare, education, tourism, finance, and international trade. Discussions revolved around the increasing interconnectedness of the global economy, the need for stronger regional partnerships, and the role of economic diplomacy in creating sustainable opportunities for businesses across borders.

A special highlight of the event was the presence of Mr. Mohammad Javad Hosseini, Deputy Ambassador, Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran, whose participation enriched discussions on economic diplomacy, regional cooperation, trade facilitation, and investment opportunities within the SCO framework.

Speaking during the dialogue, Dr. A.V. Srinivasan, Chairman, SCO Trade Council, emphasized the importance of strengthening economic cooperation among SCO member states.

“The future of economic growth lies in stronger regional cooperation and strategic partnerships. The SCO Trade Council remains committed to creating opportunities that connect businesses, encourage investment flows, and promote sustainable economic development across member states and partner countries.”

Discussions highlighted how strategic geographic locations, abundant natural resources, expanding industrial capabilities, and rapidly developing infrastructure networks are positioning the region as a hub for global commerce. Significant opportunities continue to emerge across sectors such as energy and petrochemicals, renewable energy, transportation and logistics, agriculture and food processing, mining and critical minerals, manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, digital technologies, artificial intelligence, tourism, healthcare, education, and smart infrastructure.

Addressing the practical importance of business engagement across the region, Mr. Parmod Kumar, Trade Commissioner, SCO Trade Council, noted:

“Trade is ultimately driven by relationships, trust, and access to opportunities. By creating platforms that bring together businesses, policymakers, and investors, we can unlock new avenues of cooperation and strengthen commercial ties across the SCO region and beyond.”

Dr. Asif Iqbal, President, SCO Trade Council, highlighted  the role of economic diplomacy in fostering long-term partnerships and creating new opportunities for businesses and institutions.

“The world is no longer defined by isolated economies but by interconnected markets and shared opportunities. The SCO region represents a powerful engine for growth, innovation, and cooperation. The upcoming delegation to Kyrgyzstan further reflects our commitment to fostering meaningful partnerships and unlocking new avenues for trade and investment across the region.”

The event concluded with a renewed commitment from participating organizations and delegates to strengthen regional cooperation, promote investment partnerships, facilitate business-to-business engagement, and support sustainable economic development across the SCO region and beyond.
